The landlord is not normally able to insure a tenant's personal property through their rental property insurance policy. There are a number of reasons why, including the fact that neither the landlord, nor the insurer, has any knowledge or control of the extent or value of the contents that may be brought into the property.  News reports of apartment fires often include tragic stories of renters who have lost everything because they weren't insured.  Your landlord does not provide insurance for your personal property.  Having all your personal possessions destroyed in a fire or other insurable event, without coverage, is a tragedy that does not have to happen.
